A Tribute to Dan Grossman

At FEE, we were saddened to learn that Dan Grossman had passed away. This is a great loss to the liberty movement and a personal loss to so many of us devoted to it.

Dan was a stalwart supporter of FEE through thick and thin. He served two nine-year terms on the Board of Trustees and was our chairman through two leadership transitions in the 2000s.

With a degree in economics from Miami University (Ohio) and an MBA from Columbia, Dan enjoyed a successful business career. He founded and ran a chain of office supply stores in Washington, DC, and New York City before turning his focus to nonprofit work in retirement.

Dan was an inspiration and mentor, emphasizing the importance of good governance practices for the health, sustainability, and growth of liberty-friendly organizations.

He was a focused board member, always prepared to engage constructively with leadership to ensure a clear sense of mission, vision, and strategy, as well as prudent financial management.

He served on the boards of at least nine other liberty-minded organizations and provided each with the same level of care and commitment.

His dedication to the liberty movement and its future was evident in his generosity in supporting new talent across the organizations with which he worked.

Dan was a great friend. He took his duties seriously and made liberty his lodestar. Perhaps his greatest contributions to our movement—and to us personally—were his unfailing humor and optimism.

Rest in peace, Dan.
